Synopsis from Goodreads
New York Times bestselling author Meghan March goes back to New Orleans and the world of Lachlan Mount with a dangerous and bold new anti-hero.
The thing about ghosts is they’re supposed to stay dead.
That’s exactly what I am, but I can’t stay away from Magnolia Marie Maison for one more day, let alone another year.
We’ve already got fifteen of those between us.
As it stands, she’ll want to kill me as soon as she lays eyes on me. And knowing her, she’s completely up to the task.
But I’m a man on a mission, and I’ve got everything riding on this.
So, here I come, Magnolia. This ghost is ready for whatever you got.
After all, there’s only one way I want this to end—’til death do us part.
Creole Kingpin is the first book in the Magnolia Duet.
Magnolia’s story concludes in Madam Temptress releasing April 14, 2020.
Creole Kingpin is addictive, the fast pace of the narrative ensures complete immersion into the lives of the characters.
Meghan March’s ability to weave plot threads and characters through numerous books is absolutely astounding. Our encounter with Moses in the Legend Trilogy leads into his specific story but also returning to the seamy underbelly of New Orleans we initially encountered in the Mount Trilogy giving a sense of the story and characters coming full circle.
Moses and Magnolia have done things that go against the atypical moral code in order to survive. Having insight into their personal histories makes you consider what part of your personal moral code you would be willing to sacrifice in order to survive. I liked how both Moses and Magnolia owned the decisions they have made and provided them with the tools with which to flourish not simply survive.
However, the time has come for Moses and Magnolia to move on from their dubious origins and look to the future. One which Moses is determined will be with them together. Unfortunately, the ties to the past bring danger to the present impacting the path to the future.
There are glimpses of the past between Moses and Magnolia woven into the narrative adding understanding to the connection between them. Although it does also create more questions which need answers. Especially regarding the reasons behind Moses first encounter with Magnolia so many years ago, one which Mount knows the answer to and is resolute Moses discloses the truth prior to Magnolia rekindling the flame between them.
We have to wait for Madam Temptress in order to find out the secrets Moses has been keeping as well as uncovering the danger Magnolia has found herself in.
