Publication Date: 1 Feb 2020
Synopsis from Goodreads
The rich and popular Sharks rule at prestigious, ivy-covered Camden Prep. Once upon a time, I wanted to be part of their world–until they destroyed me.
The last thing I expected was an anonymous love letter from one of them.
Please. I hate every one of those rich jerks for what they did to me. The question is, which Shark is my secret admirer?
Knox, the scarred quarterback.
Dane, his twin brother.
Or Chance, the ex who dumped me. . .
Your eyes are the color of the Caribbean Sea.
Wait. That’s stupid.
What I really mean is, you look at me and I feel something REAL.
It’s been ten months since you were here, but I can’t forget you.
I’ve missed seeing you walk down the hall.
I’ve missed you cheering at my football games.
I’ve missed the smell of your hair.
And then everything fell apart the night of the kegger.
Don’t hate me because I’m a Shark.
I just want to make you mine.
Mature Content. Recommended for 18+.
Dear Ava wasn’t what I expected, however, it is Ilsa Madden-Mills in her purest form, delving into the dark underbelly of society and bringing light and hope to the darkest of situations.
Ava has always been on the outside at the exclusive Camden Prep, being a scholarship student and a ward of the state. However, she is determined to make somethign of herself and provide for her brother who has special needs resulting from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. Ava’s tenacity and hope for the future shines out of her spirit, a noticeable light in a sea of jaded elitism. Unfortuantely, her inner light makes her a target for those wishing to snuff it out. Resulting in a traumatic event at a field party.
Despite Ava having to miss some of her schooling, she is determined the incident will not hold her back plus she is hoping to prove herself to all of the people who branded her a liar.
Knox is one of Camden Prep’s elite on the outside, on the inside, however, there is a completely different story. He has a lot of issues stemming from his mother’s death and her mental health issues. Issues his twin brotehr, Dane, is also exhibiting. Knox is the glue that holds his family togetehr, he has a huge heart that he fiercely guards from outsiders. Despite his outward antagonism to Ava, he is intensely drawn to her emotionally and physically.
I absolutely loved all of the character in Dear Ava but especially Knox and Ava. I adored the portrayal of Ava as a true survivor and never a victim. Both Knox and Ava have dealt with a lot in their young lives and as a result are mature beyond their years. Despite everything both Ava and Knox have experienced, their hopes for the future have never waivered.
The ending of the story was pure feels and added to the overall heart-warming nature of the narrative. Although Dear Ava does deal with some truly harrowing events, it never loses that feeling of hope ❤
