Synopsis from Goodreads
It’s hard to get revenge without getting a rap sheet.
After Tempest Cassidy walks in on her husband banging her high school nemesis, her whole world gets turned upside down. She goes from being known as the Duchess of Muffins to the town crazy. Her new MO: revenge.
Eventually, Tempest grows weary being arrested. Yet what choice does she have? If she’s not angry, then she’s simply . . . sad.
Just as she decides to get her life back on track, in walks Cage Erickson, the new bouncer at the local strip club. He’s scary-handsome and the polar opposite of her ex. She’s attracted to him, but she’s not looking for a rebound. He’s attracted to her, but he’s not looking for a serious relationship. So, they agree to be friends.
But when lines get blurred in the friend zone, will they both get burned? Or will it be a TKO?
‘Stud Muffin’ is a full-length contemporary romantic comedy, can be read as a standalone, and is book #2 in the Donner Bakery series, Green Valley World, Penny Reid Book Universe.
Stud Muffin brings wonderful new characters into the Pennyverse. Donner Bakery is not only home to the Banana Cake Queen but it now hosts the Duchess of Muffins!!! I loved the cameo appearances of Penny Reid characters was a brilliant addition within Stud Muffin without altering their personalities from their original stories.
Tempest is a fantastic character, similar in temperament to our beloved Jennifer; and like Jennifer prior to Cletus (Beard Science), she has been living her life for others. Catching her husband in bed with her high school tormentor broke something lose within Tempest; unfortunately, her emotions once unleashed were a little difficult to reign back in leading to a sentence of anger management sessions.
Cage is a friend of Pink Pony owner, Hank. So when his life and career take an unexpected turn following a shoulder injury; Cage finds himself as the new bouncer of the Pink Pony while trying to find a new direction for his life.
The chemistry between Cage and Tempest is instantaneous although the timing leaves a lot to be desired. Striking up a friendship, Cage and Tempest navigate their new paths with the aid of the other. Although the attraction continues to simmer in the background.
I adored the way in which Tempest gained self-awareness while fighting her way past her broken marriage.
I am a great believer in everything happening for a reason and negative events are the ones that define us the most. This is certainly true in both Cage and Tempest’s case. Not only do Tempest and Cage have to come to terms with their new life paths but also the emotional baggage they have as a result. The way in which they deal with their issues together is what makes the narrative a smart romance.
I have to mention the wonderful names and combinations Tempest gives the muffins she creates, you can see the playlist included in this post as an example 😍
