Synopsis from Goodreads
From the New York Times bestselling author of the Driven series comes a powerful romance about reaching great heights through low depths.
Who says you have to play by the rules to get what you want?
Agreeing to meet Ryker Lockhart is my first mistake. Rich, handsome, and more than intriguing, he thinks blackmail will bend me to his will.
But he’s wrong.
I may have done a few things that weren’t exactly legal, but I have my own reasons for that. The last thing I’m going to do is let some high-powered divorce attorney come into my life, have my body, and rule my heart. Not to mention ruin everything that I have carefully built in just a short amount of time.
But as much as I try to resist him, and against my better judgment, there is something about him that has me agreeing to his proposal.
I’m putting everything on the line for him. I just hope I won’t lose everything when this is all over.
OMG, what just happened. Kirsty has an uncanny knack of making you become completely invested in the characters she creates. Characters which are fundamentally flawed and in need of tender loving care with which to bloom. Kirsty provides hope that anything can be overcome as the characters begin to trust each other and then she completely blindsides you with a HUGE twist that leaves you reeling right alongside the characters.
This is exactly what happened within Resist. Vaughn and Ryker meet under very unusual circumstances but the spark between them is very real. From their initial meeting, they are consumed by thoughts of each other, although the tactics used on both parts are unorthodox, to say the least. Leading to further encounters which are both good and unsettling.
Vaughn has kept a very tight reign on all of the separate aspects of her life, a necessary divide due to her current career. However, from the time she meets Ryker, Vaughn’s worlds start to collide. I absolutely adored Vaughn and her determination to succeed in taking care of the person she loves unconditionally by any means necessary. Which goes a long way in explaining her situation. Not only is Vaughn dealing with a lot of pressure with current circumstances but her initial encounter with Ryker triggers long-buried memories which she has to process.
Ryker is a puzzle that I cannot wait to unlock. For the most part he is determined to prove he is the cold-hearted bathplug he is known as; however, here are glimpses below the surface as to a completely different Ryker, one which I hope is who he truly is!!!!!
There is a colossal amount of events taking place within Resist creating an utterly compelling plot taking you through a gamut of emotions right alongside Vaughn and Ryker.
I am still flabbergasted by the ending of Resist and desperately need to know what happens next!!!!!
