Synopsis from Goodreads
Once upon a time, there lived a best-selling author who wrote about the miracle of true love and finding your forever soul mate. And that was thanks to Elizabeth. His muse…his one and only…his soon to be ex-wife.
It’s been six months since the love of his life tore out his heart and set it on fire, and because of this, the “author” hasn’t written a single word—his mind is drier than the Sahara Desert.
That unfortunate fool? That’s me.
My name is Jayden Evans or, as my readers know me, J.E. Sparrow. I’m one of the world’s most adored authors, but now, the only thing beloved is a bottle of whiskey and the unspeakable nasties I somehow find myself in.
But this life of depravity is growing old fast. I need a change. And that comes when I meet Carrie Bell—the woman who stirs something in me I thought long dead.
From the moment we met, I knew she was different. Could she be the one to end this drought? I suppose there is only one way to find out.
Paris. Two strangers in the city of love. What can go wrong?
I’ve got to be honest and say I really struggled with Jayden as a character, although I did understand why he chooses the cynical route of debauchery, I didn’t like it. However, you can tell Jayden doesn’t like the person he has become and it isn’t who he truly is – he has become a product of the negative events in his life and as a
Carrie is a ray of sunshine in an odd-ball extrovert manner, the self-proclaimed black sheep of her family because she is down to earth as opposed to pretentious, wanting to make her own way in life rather than rely on her family name to see her through.
Carrie and Jayden’s initial encounter is on an aeroplane where neither is aware of exactly who each other is and the strange six-degrees of separation they have between them; not to mention the insane amount of chemistry that occurs between them. Unfortunately, Jayden’s journey into douchery continues resulting in Carrie’s opinion of him taking a swift nose-dive.
A surprising side-effect of the sparks between Carrie and Jayden is the return of Jayden’s writing mojo, but only when Carrie is about. So what is Jayden to do to find his way back to the person he was always meant to be – a true romantic at heart which makes him redeemable in my eyes – it’s just the length of time he spent getting there that was a problem.
Carrie isn’t perfect herself, she is layered with a feisty exterior covering a vulnerability deep inside. It’s not surprising when you see her family to understand her emotional defences. As if there weren’t enough problems for Jayden and Carrie to overcome, there is also the little fact of Carrie having her own secret!!!
While Mr Write has some cute, adorable and romantic moments along the way, I couldn’t quite get past Jayden’s wild ride as I would continually wonder if something could trigger a relapse. Kind of like being an alcoholic but with sex.
