Synopsis from Goodreads
How do you date your best friend’s sister? Easy.
Step one: Pretend you want her to set you up with someone else. That will bring the two of you closer.
Step two: Go on date with lots of random women, proceed to get stupid drunk and talk about your best friend’s sister, thus gaining the courage to finally make a move.
Step three: Randomly show up at her apartment and confess your love. Women love that, right?
It all seemed so simple. A fool-proof three step process that will guarantee the love of you life to fall madly in love with you.
At least–that’s what I thought was going to happen. But my attempts to win over Julia Westin backfired in more ways than I can count. The thing about Julia? She’s smart–really smart–and her wicked gaze cuts through all the charm I’ve tried slinging her way. She’s not interested in games, my gifts, or my stories. She might want me too; but she’s not giving in that easy..
The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend’s Sister is super cute and the characters are a great way to spends seeing the new year in.
Bram is a delicious mix of sweet and dirty with a touch of vulnerability thrown into the mix. A romantic at heart but without a clue as to how to be actually romantic – I know right!!! Bram has been head over heels for Julia since their first encounter at a frat party when Julia was wearing the least
Unfortunately, Bram had a bit of a reputation as a player which was a huge no-no to Julia as well as him being her brother’s best friend. Add in Julia’s own insecurities topped off with her focus on her studies/career and you have a disaster waiting to happen.
Realising Julia needs time to grow into the woman she was destined to be, Bram carefully bides his time waiting for Julia to be in a place where she is open to his courtship 💕 Long term goals 💕 Bram literally plays to win or lose in this case in order to make Julia realise how he feels about her.
I adored the characters and their interactions in The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend’s Sister, everything from the way in which Bram treats other people with care and compassion to his bromance with Julia’s brother. Meghan Quinn completely nails the portrayal of an introvert emerging from her cocoon/ugly duckling turned beautiful swan. However, it is also re-iterated throughout that Bram has loved Julia in all her introverted nerdiness before the successful businesswoman make-over. This fact and the whole tube sock fetich associated with Julia only serves to make Bram’s feelings for Julia deep and meaningful, going beyond the physical to the heart.
Unfortunately, Julia’s self-perception acts as a barrier to her fully accepting Bram’s feelings as genuine. To the point that her defensive attitude takes on the appearance of self-sabotage. It is ultimately Julia’s decision to take the leap with Bram and trust his feelings as well as her own.
I love Meghan’s sense of humour and her ability to use situational comedy within the narrative, rom-com at it’s finest 💖
