Synopsis from Goodreads

If you’re planning on falling in love…

When it comes to the confident, charismatic Caleb Parker, Sadie Lane feels the spark—the kind that comes from rubbing each other the wrong way. She’s a tattoo artist, he’s a straight-laced mogul. But after they accidentally co-rescue an abandoned dog from a storm, Sadie sees a vulnerable side to the seemingly invincible hottie.

you’d better be sure…

Caleb doesn’t do emotions. Growing up the underdog, he’s learned the hard way to build up an impenetrable wall. Perfect for business. Disastrous for relationships. He’s never worried about it before—not until he finally gets behind Sadie’s armor and begins to fall.

… someone is there to catch you.

Both guarded and vulnerable, Sadie and Caleb are complete opposites. Or are they? Shocked at their undeniable connection, can they ever admit to wanting more? That all depends on what they’re each willing to risk.

REVIEW

I love the Heartbreaker Bay series but have to admit I didn’t feel as invested in Sadie and Caleb’s relationship as much as I have with the previous couples. Which has really baffled me because I was so excited for them to get together especially because of their flirtatious animosity towards each other. However, the tension was short lived and the progression of the rendezvous’s between Sadie and Caleb were sweet, tender and happened naturally. They seemed to fall into an easy pattern as if they had been together years rather than days.

Perhaps it was the lack of angst that affected my investment, which if that is the case I am worried I am turning into a cynical and bitter single woman LOL. I will say the real star of Playing for Keeps was the three-legged bundle of cute named Lollipop 😍

Sadie and Caleb both fall hard and fast for each other but their main adversary to happily ever after is their own emotional barriers. While Caleb has a few hiccups due to his economic status and the interference of his 4 sisters; it is Sadie who carries the greatest baggage and unfortunately the luggage she carries causes her to self-sabotage even when she really doesn’t want to. Deep-seated scars created in her formative years still weigh heavy on her psyche especially as Sadie feels as if she doesn’t fit anywhere while trying to carve out her own niche. Although it is staring her in the face in the shape of one hot billionaire 😉

Sadie has to learn to let go of the past she has buried herself under in order to embrace the beautiful future ahead of her – dog and man included 😍
