Synopsis from Goodreads
Lila Callan had an unconventional upbringing—unavoidable when your mother owns a brothel. But while she’d inherited some of her parents’ ‘wacky and offbeat’, she was also strong, independent and incredibly intelligent. The fact she was tall, beautiful and blond was a bonus she never really cared to exploit. She wasn’t uptight; it’s just that long term was more her thing, with zero interest in one-night stands.
Until she met Ryan York and then she isn’t so sure.
Blindingly good looking.
Infectious sense of humor.
And charm for days.
Ryan York was movie star material.
Except that he wasn’t.
He’d turned his back on the idea of hitting the big time, more content with being Eric Larsson’s—his best friend who was a movie star—right-hand man. Despite his laid-back persona, he was a guy who could get stuff done. And women lined up to be done by Ryan. He did not have a problem with that. Not. At. All.
Except his magical panty dropping powers didn’t seem to extend to the lovely Lila. And she wasn’t sure if she was going to teach the #1 player a new game, or find one herself.
One way or another, they were both getting naked.
#1 Player brings the two best friends from #1 Crush into the spotlight. although #1 Player can be read as a standalone it will make you desperate for Tia and Eric’s story.
Lila had a very unconventional upbringing that while it hasn’t left any emotional scars it has shaped her view of relationships especially those of a casual nature. Which is the main reason she hasn’t pursued anything with the delectable Ryan. As well as the distance between hometowns and the fact that their best friends are in a relationship all add up to a case of not-so-hidden lust. Ryan player reputation also doesn’t help diminish the barriers between them.
However, when Lila travels to LA to spend a few weeks on a story there is no escaping the burning passion between them. Told from the single perspective of Lila’s point of view, I did find myself desperately wishing for more insight into Ryan.
Lila is a fantastic and fun character full of snark and sass that leads to a lot of laugh out loud moments. Throwing caution to the wind and embracing the time they have together, Lila and Ryan embark on a fling for the duration of Lila’s stay in LA. Although Lila has to constantly battle her growing feelings for Ryan. Ryan’s romantic side comes out to play adding to the confusion Lila is feeling.
It is obvious to the outside observer that the relationship between Lila and Ryan is far from casual but their own insecurities and the problem of the physical distance between their homes prevents them from opening themselves up to possible rejection.
While I did enjoy the resolution of the problems between Lila and Ryan, I have to say I would have liked a little more depth to this part of the story.
Fast paced, fun and flirty #1 Player brings your LA dreams to life.
