Synopsis from Goodreads

Meet cute…

Run for the hills—temporarily. That’s Colbie Albright’s plan when she flees New York for San Francisco. Wrangling her crazy family by day and writing a bestselling YA fantasy series by night has taken its toll. In short, Colbie’s so over it that she’s under it. She’s also under the waters of a historic San Francisco fountain within an hour of arrival. Fortunately, the guy who fishes Colbie out has her looking forward to Christmas among strangers. But she’s pretty sure Spencer Baldwin won’t be a stranger for long.

Make merry…

Spence’s commitment to hiding from the Ghosts of Relationships Past means he doesn’t have to worry about the powerful—okay, crazy hot chemistry—he’s got with Colbie. Just because she can laugh at anything, especially herself… just because she’s gorgeous and a great listener just because she gets Spence immediately doesn’t mean he won’t be able to let Colbie go. Does it?

and hope for a miracle.

Now the clock’s ticking for Colbie and Spence: Two weeks to cut loose. Two weeks to fall hard. Two weeks to figure out how to make this Christmas last a lifetime

REVIEW

I absolutely love this series, Heartbreaker Bay is the place to find true love and a family made-up of true friends, each story only makes me want to move there myself.

Chasing Christmas Eve is the turn of the resident tech genius and behind the scenes benefactor, Spence. I have always been curious as to the secrets Spence hides behind his hot geek exterior, while he fully endorses the true love his friends are finding he remains alone and lonely. Due to his upbringing and the relationships if his parents and grandparents, Spence truly believes he is unable to achieve a life balance between work and a relationship, condemning himself to eternal bachelor hood. Until a fateful encounter with a exuberant dog that ends with a tumble into the legendary fountain with a beautiful stranger, Colbie.

Colbie is such a wonderful character, quirky, understanding, compassionate and kind. A successful writer who has taken on more than her fair share of responsibility from a very young age. Unfortunately, this has resulted in them relying on Colbie for every little thing, a form of co-dependency with Colbie enabling their lack of independence. However, the toll has become too much for Colbie, especially as she is also a successful writer. The pressure she feels from her every day life alongside an unsuccessful mixing of business and pleasure results in Colbie becoming creatively blocked and in desperate need of an escape. An impulsive plane ride detoured by a hurricane is how Colbie ends up in the fountain with Spence.

There is a simmering attraction between Colbie and Spence from the very beginning. I absolutely loved the way in which Colbie was able to lighten the mood of everyone around her with her calm personality and quick witted humour. Especially the effect she has on Spence, she is the only person that has been able to distract him from work and prevent him from obsessing about his current project. Things escalate quickly between Colbie and Spence, taking into account the limited time they have to spend together takes away the emotional barriers they both have.

Spence’s friends are understandably protective of their friend due to past experiences, although I did find Elle to be overly aggressive where Colbie was concerned in this instance.

While Spence and Colbie balance each other, they also inspire each other, find the perfect balance in their lives. Unfortunately, this is within the bubble they have created outside of their normal lives, without taking into consideration the obligations they each have in real life. While there isn’t anything that can’t be overcome it does take outside observers to push them both in the right direction.

Chasing Christmas Eve is one of my favourite stories of the series, minimum angst, seriously swoon-worthy romantic moments and some hilarious laugh-out-loud incidents made even funnier by the characters reactions and interactions.

I’m hoping that Jill will give Colbie’s twin brothers their own stories – whether it is in the Heartbreaker Bay series or separately I would love to see them develop further ♥
