Synopsis from Goodreads

When you’ve lived your life as a criminal…
When you’ve done unspeakable things …
When your soul has become dark and stained…

The path to redemption begins where you least expect it.

Kyle Sommerville is in hiding and doesn’t want to be found by anyone. Certainly not by his quirky, free-spirited neighbor who’s managed to push her way past the walls he’s built around him. But Jane Cresson’s indomitable will and insatiable curiosity about her reclusive neighbor makes it impossible for Kyle to stay immersed in his dark world.

Little by little, she claws through his shell.
Day by day, she gets him to smile a little more.
Night by night, they both find pleasure they never knew existed.

When Kyle’s terrible past is exposed, Jane begins to think she’s in over her head. Can her love for this broken man finally clear his path to redemption, or will Kyle’s darkness finally extinguish every bit of hope she’s put into him?

REVIEW

Kyle has been so far undercover he is afraid he will never be able to find the pieces of himself he has had to lose along the way. He has seen and done atrocious things that he no longer feels in touch with who he was before he went undercover. More than that he feels tainted by the world he has been immersed in, to the degree that he feels he has lost his soul/humanity as a result of the things he has not only witnessed but participated in. As an under cover ATF agent, Kyle has had to adopt a persona to be able to fit into a really FUBAR situation.

Ready to take down the motorcycle club he has infiltrated, Kyle has opted to bide his time awaiting trail in semi-seclusion rather than in witness protection ending up in charge of a lighthouse and living across from Jane. Jane is the absolute opposite of Kyle in demeanour, her bubbly personality should be bottled and sold. Optimistic, glass half full and utterly in love with her life, I want to be Jane. Adorably quirky with her random movie quotes, you can’t help but love her even when she makes you cringe in her pursuit of Kyle 🙂 For me Jane as sunshine personified 🙂

As Kyle and Jane get to know each other it is obvious how much Kyle craves kindness and compassion; he soaks up goodness and normalcy like a sponge. Something Jane is more than able to provide in droves.

The way in which Kyle blossoms via his relationship with Jane re-inforced how terrific they are together. Unfortunately, the trial and secrets Kyle still harbours create additional problems for the pair within the plot. Leaving them both questioning their current path in life, but when something fulfills you so completely its worth fighting for.

Saving yourself is sometimes just as important as saving others.
