Synopsis from Goodreads
When Isabella MacKenzie tries to move on from her disastrous past, Officer William Devine is determined to show her that love is the only way to heal. This sexy enovella, the final installment in Jennifer Probst’s heartwarming Searching For series, follows the high-powered women of the popular matchmaking agency Kinnections, located in the small, picturesque town of Verily, NY.
I am so sad to see the end of this series but am equally happy that there is a happily ever after for everyone.
Izzy has been the black sheep for so long, tormented by her own inner demons whether genetic or chemical imbalance, the only way Izzy was able to make the darkness stop consuming her was to blot it out with alcohol, drugs and men. A slippery slope of addiction and self-loathing with one fuelling the other in a vicious cycle. It is painful for me to read about addiction when my own marriage ended due to the hold alcohol had and still has on my ex. While I felt empathy for Izzy and fully supported her in turning her life around, I can’t say I can apply the same feelings to my ex. The most terrifying thing of all that always stand out for me when I read about addiction is it’s links to being genetic, my poor girls may have that gene within them like a ticking time bomb just waiting to explode. Hence the constant lectures about the harm of alcohol as well as drugs.
Izzy hit rock bottom to realise she needed help or her life would end, she is very lucky to have such a wonderful close-knit family and supportive friends to see her through her darkest days. Izzy recognises how lucky she is to have these people in her life but still harbours doubts to her own worth especially where romance and a happily ever after are concerned. Izzy has been unconsciously searching for a special connection all her life, one she has only felt once, right before the drugs took hold of her life, six years ago with a one-night stand called Liam, who left after she was given a bag of drugs 🙁
Whether coincidence or fate Izzy and Liam are brought back together in the unlikeliest of ways. Liam is none other than Stone’s police officer partner, Devine!!! As it turns out Liam hasn’t been able to forget Izzy either, she is the benchmark he measures all other women against and finds them lacking. I adored his ability to accept Izzy for the person she is, flaws and all, his admiration of her overcoming her addiction was enchanting. However, Izzy’s own scars creat a rift between their burgeoning relationship. Absolutely everything in their lives lines up perfectly, it was wonderful to witness.
I loved seeing all the characters from the previous books and catching up with the events in their lives. Although I have to be honest and say I need an extended epilogue for all of the couples set about 10 years in the future – how perfect would that be.
Searching for Disaster is a brilliant conclusion to one of my favourite series.
