Book Angel Booktopia is delighted to welcome Eleanor Wood to the blog today to celebrate the release of Gemini Rising by sharing the playlist.
The Venn diagram crossover between books and music is basically my favourite place in the universe, so this is the subject of my dreams!
Sorana, the heroine of Gemini Rising, is exactly the same. She adores music as much as she does books (i.e. a lot) – it’s how she processes her emotions, makes sense of the world and identifies herself. When the mysterious Johansson twins start in her class at school, they bond through their shared love of the band Trouble Every Day – and that’s where the trouble all begins!
Placebo – Every You Every Me
Trouble Every Day are a fictional band (although I wish they really existed). They are formed of a mash-up of my favourite things – named after a weird Vincent Gallo film, a little bit Jared Leto in 30 Seconds to Mars… However, they were largely inspired by my die-hard teenage love for the band Placebo. I think when Sorana grows up, she will still love Trouble Every Day as much as I love Placebo.
Bat for Lashes – Daniel
This dreamy pop song perfectly encapsulates the feeling of being young, restless and obsessed. The feeling of wanting to run away and risk it all. First love and the end of childhood. I listened to this a lot when I was writing Gemini Rising. When I did, I never thought of any of the hot boys in the book – always of Sorana and Elyse, the real love story of all-consuming teenage friendship.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Maps
Having said that, I like to imagine that Sorana would listen to this song on repeat and think about the beautiful/mysterious/moody Jago. She would close the door and sing along in a heartfelt voice. She might even have a cry – you know, just for fun.
Tied to the Mast – Heartbreaker
Then she might put this on and have a dance around her bedroom, because life is never that bad and there’s always music!
