Synopsis from Goodreads

It’s true. I’m not what most people would call “pretty” and, well, high school was rough. Fast forward ten years and life is good…

Until a bunch of jerks think it’s hilarious to put the “butterface” (AKA me) on a wedding Kiss Cam with the hottest guy ever—and that old humiliation hits hard.

I recognize him immediately. The sexiest cop in Waterbury and totally out of my league.

But then he kisses me.

And we totally forget the room, the crowd, everything.

Then he tells everyone we’ve been dating for months.

Soon everything starts to feel too real, from adorable fights over “necessary” tools to fix my broken porch to surviving a free-for-all dinner with his six siblings to picking up where our last kiss left off.

But there’s something he’s not telling me about why he’s really hanging around, and I’m pretty sure it has to do with my mob-connected brothers.

Because this is not a make-over story, and Cinderella is only a fairy tale…

REVIEW

Butterface will make your heart-ache and re-evaluate the way in which society determines what is beautiful and what isn’t.

We all struggle with our perceived imperfections and harbor negative comments throughout our lives with which to torture ourselves at the low points in our lives. Can you imagine relegating yourself to second-class citizenship and singledom because of the damage inflicted on your self-confidence due to insensitive remarks and actions 😢 This is exactly where Gina finds herself because she doesn’t conform to societies ideal of what beautiful should be. I have to be honest and say I did have trouble picturing Gina in my imagination because I feel everyone is beautiful in their own way.

To add to Gina’s burdens, her overprotective brothers are involved with the local crime family, although low down on the totem pole.

Ford is a straight-laced cop, a by-the-book kind of guy and just happens to be related to Felicia from The Charmer 😃 Ford also happens to be on the task force investigating the organized crime in the area. Can you see where this is going????

Gina and Ford meet at a wedding she has planned for a fellow officer when an impromptu kiss-cam makes their worlds collide. Ford is shocked by the instant sparks he feels for Gina, not because of the way she looks but due to his usual pragmatic approach to all things. Having feelings confuses Ford as he doesn’t know how to handle them and Gina brings out all of the emotions 😉

Fate intervenes bringing the opportunity for Ford to spend more time with Gina; however, there is always the underlying investigation that creates a sense of foreboding overshadowing the relationship building between Gina and Ford.

Watching Gina blossom under Ford’s attention was bittersweet thanks to the investigation and exaggerated by Gina’s own negative thoughts. It’s a hard battle learning to love yourself and believe someone else can love you for who you are.

Butterface puts a new spin on the proverb ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ 💞💝😍
