Synopsis from Goodreads
“The best way to get over your sh**ty ex-fiancé is to get under a shiny new stud…”
As soon as Mr. Tall, Blond, and Handsome walks into that bar, I know he’s the hook-up I need to get over stupid Cheater Kyle.
A few stolen kisses in a dark hallway, and I’m pretty sure we’re headed for a home run—until he disappears without a trace.
Whatever. Men are all snakes in the grass, and I don’t need a new one anyway.
I resolve to forget about his perfect lips (and chest of steel) and instead focus on turning my Granny’s old beach house into a profitable B&B.
What I don’t expect is for him to show up the next day in my kitchen!
You see, my sexy mystery man is none other than Jax Roland, the drop-dead gorgeous home improvement star of The Right Stud, and he’s got an offer I can’t refuse.
With a suitcase in one hand and a hammer in the other, he wants to move in and renovate my old house while he films his new show.
But my roommate has secrets, and they threaten to rip our blossoming friendship—and possible love—apart.
When push comes to shove, is Jax really The Right Stud or is he just another nail in the coffin of love?
The Right Stud is the perfect blend of humour and romance, I absolutely loved the way in which Ilsa and Tia’s writing gels so perfectly together making the story flow smoothly and drawing the reader into the lives of the characters.
Ashton has had a rough couple of years; the death of her grandmother, catching her fiancee cheating 3 weeks before their wedding, incurring a mountain of debt from the cancellation of the wedding and then the pressure of her brother, Ben, wanting to sell the house they inherited from their grandmother 😢 Understandably, Ashton has an abundance of trust issues and doesn’t want to make herself vulnerable to another person with so much already going on in her life. Wanting to prove herself to her brother, Ashton undertakes a plan to renovate the B&B with the help of YouTube restoration guru The Right Stud 😜
Jax is originally from the local area but holds a lot of negative emotions due to the stranded relationship he has with his mother following the death of his father who was a huge influence in Jax’s life. Having not fully dealt with his emotional issues stemming from the death of his father, Jax keeps himself at a distance from emotional entanglements, pouring all his energy into his up-and-coming YouTube restoration channel the Right Stud!!!! Determined to take his passion to the next level, Jax agrees to take on the restoration of a B&B on an extremely tight budget. Unfortunately, Jax’s day job as a real estate shark adds to the angst when Ashton’s brother hires the firm Jax works for in order to appraise the B&B Jax has been hired to save. A twisty tangled plot that all comes together beautifully and smoothly.
To add to the twists, Jax and Ashton meet prior to the initial restoration appointment when Ashton ventures out at the instance of her best friend, Lulu. Crossing paths at a bar, the chemistry is overwhelming for both Ashton and Jax. Something they both wish to pursue even though they don’t fully understand what it is that is connecting them beyond the passion they are unable to deny.
As the restoration progresses and despite Jax omitting to inform Ashton of his day job, the connection between the couple continues to grow. There is an ease to their interactions, they connect seamlessly on all levels.
The misgivings created from the tangled web woven by Jax lead to the inevitable implosion of the blossoming feelings between himself and Ashton. How will Jax repent for his stupidity?? Will Ashton be able to forgive him when she has been hurt so badly in the past???
While I loved Ashton and Jax and their relationship, it was the quirky peripheral characters that really stole my heart, from the kooky Mrs C and her foul-mouthed parrot to Ashton’s BF Lulu. However, the real star of the show for me personally was JC, I haven’t laughed so hard for a long time picturing the goat’s antics 💞
