Synopsis from Goodreads
The most beautiful man I’ve ever seen is the one who can ruin everything…
The first time I lay eyes on Callan Walker, I know he’ll be trouble. With his smug grin, hot Aussie accent and thousand dollar shoes, he’s just the kind of rich guy who always gets what he wants.
And he wants two things: a night of sin, and my cooperation as he outmaneuvers his powerful mother to take control of his uncle’s estate.
I can’t afford either one. I’m the only thing standing between my little sister and the foster care system. He may have money and charm on his side, but I have something even more powerful — pure desperation. This temp job at his mother’s company can become a full-time job for me. It has to.
But when Callan’s eyes rake over my body, sometimes I forget my obligations. His piercing gaze finds the fun, optimistic girl I used to be and not the tired person I’ve become.
And it works–if only for a moment. Our night together was a mistake. I can’t afford to get sucked into his high-powered family’s treachery. But the closer I get to Callan, the more layers I find beneath those expensive clothes. Though I can’t forget this is temporary. He’s temporary. I have too much to lose.
Too bad my foolish heart didn’t get the memo…
Temporary shows that dysfunctional families, toxic relations and the effect it has on an individuals identity doesn’t discriminate where economic status is concerned.
Grace is toeing the line in her temporary job in the hope of securing a permanent position; desperately needing the regular paycheck to ease her financial stress. acting as guardian to her fifteen-year-old sister without the legalities in place to apply for aid, Grace shoulders the responsibility alone. Having given up her dreams of becoming a designer in order to care for her sister, having a stable job would help ease some of the responsibilities and obligations she has been burdened with. Although Grace would never view her sister as a burden, she is one of the most compassionate and innately kind people you could wish to meet.
Tasked with taking inventory of the company owners deceased estranged brothers estate puts not only Grace’s career at jeopardy but also her heart.
Callan is the son of the company owner, Victoria, although he has distanced himself from the machinations and negativity his mother brings to his life. Embracing his role of carefree playboy to the outside world, although there is a lot more to Callan than he lets people see. His barriers have been firmly set in place by recurring disappointments at the hands of his mother. Callan is devasted to learn of his uncle’s passing, as he is the only member of the family Callan was close to. Knowing his mother probably has self-serving plans for his uncle’s estate, Callan takes it on himself to honor his uncle’s wishes with regards to his estate, but first he has to find and enforce the new will his uncle had spoken of.
On opposites sides of the fence, Callan and Grace are forced to work together to catalog the amazing and numerous possessions, Uncle Jack had accumulated throughout his life.
Although there is an underlying attraction between Grace and Callan, there is an understandable level of mistrust at the beginning of their partnership. However, as they get to know each other on a more personal level there is no denying the chemistry between them. Unfortunately, this does put Grace in a very precarious situation with regards to her career.
Rich or poor, toxic people and dysfunctional families do not discriminate, although they can take different forms whether drug addiction or the quest for power, what ever shape it manifests into takes its toll on the individuals caught in its path.
Temporary has a fairytale feel to the narrative especially with regard to the romance. I loved the character development throughout the story most of all, the way in which by being together, both Grace and Callan are able to realize their own worth.
Sarina and Sarah drop a huge bombshell at the end of Temporary that I only hope leads to further books with these characters *crosses fingers*
