Synopsis from Goodreads
It was supposed to be fun.
A mutual use of each other’s bodies.
To be a ruse to the world around us.
I wanted to be free from my ex, and he wanted to escape his.
One drunken night turned a joke into a life-changing moment.
He warned me not to fall for him, and I should’ve listened.
He intoxicated me.
He made me crave him.
He ruined me.
In the end, I’ll never be the same.
Drunk on You is my first foray into the Hope Town world, luckily the story can be read as a standalone although the peripheral characters stories are touched upon within the narrative it isn’t necessary to know the details, although it will make you want to 😉
Drunk on You focuses on Shane and Nikki who are the best friends of Nate and Emberlyn from When I’m With You . Shane is co-owner of the Dirty with Nate and an ex-stripper. While Nikki is a second grade teacher in an exclusive private school requiring a strict morality clause in her contract!!!
Shane and Nikki have been harbouring a secret crush on each other for quite some time but both were in relationships to be able to do anything with their attraction. Their relationships were both with very toxic people and imploded as a result, however, the exes aren’t moving on and are causing problems for both Shane and Nikki.
Fuelled by alcohol and hormones, Nikki lets go of her inhibitions to make Shane aware of her attraction to him. Progressing into a mutually beneficial friends with benefits situation in order to deter their respective exes.
What starts off as a fake relationship soon morphs into so much more as Shane and Nikki fall effortlessly into a routine with sizzling smexy times thrown in. Unfortunately, Shane has some serious trust issues caused by his ex’s jealousy. With his job he is unable to believe Nikki will be able to cope with his flaunting his body at the Dirty. Resulting in some unnecessary angst on both parts.
Even with the barriers Nikki and Shane are presented with, you can’t help but feel they belong together. They complement and complete each other like nobody else could. All the things that happen only aid to strengthen the bond between them and lead them to a fulfilment they had not experienced before.
Shane reminded me a little of Christian Grey with his need for control and the way in which he enforces it.
The foundation has been laid for the next story in the series which will feature one of the prominent families form the Corps Security series.
