Synopsis from Goodreads
He wasn’t always this rich. This hot. This difficult.
Aaric Christos was a guy who protected me. Wanted me. Maybe even loved me.
That man is gone.
In his place is the most powerful real estate tycoon in the city.
He’s a cold, ruthless, aggressive businessman.
The only one who can save me and my startup from ruin.
It takes every ounce of courage to put my pride aside and ask for his help.
I didn’t expect him to offer it easily.
And he doesn’t.
Instead, he vets me harder than he’s vetted anyone.
Don’t invest in what you don’t know, he says.
He’s assessing every piece of me, to the point I’ve never felt so bare.
I yearn for the boy I once knew, whose touch once craved me.
Putting it all on the line will be worth it, I tell myself.
Until I realize—too late—that some risks are not worth taking.
Katy Evans does brooding alpha heroes like no other ♥
Aaric and Bryn knew each other in high school, while there has always been a simmering attraction below the surface between them; Bryn was too fearful to give into her attraction to Aaric. While Aaaric struggles with feelings of self-worth where Bryn was concerned. Moving away from the town they went to school in, to be able to make something of himself, Aaric has never forgotten Bryn.
There has been a reversal of fortune with both Bryn and Aaric since their time together in high school. Bryn has suffered the loss of her parents followed by the bankruptcy of the family business. While Aaric has become a force to be reckoned with in the world of business especially with his uncanny ability to back promising start-ups. Bryn is determined to make her own way and put her creative talents to use by setting up her own fashion design/styling company. Unfortunately, Bryn hasn’t been able to secure the financial backing she requires to make her professional dreams come true. Bringing her back into Aaric’s life in search of a business partnership.
Aaric has forfeited his personal life for his business success forging relationship based on mutual professional gain, however, the re-introduction of Bryn into his life has him questioning his future.
The chemistry between Bryn and Aaric is sizzling; although they try to deny their baser instincts; smexy times are unavoidable for them. Lines between business and pleasure blur, hindered by some impressive skeletons in Aaric’s closet and a shocking twist of events. The relationship between Bryn and Aaric is fraught with tension adding to the fast paced nature of the plot.
I adored Bryn; her determination, kindness, compassion and ability to bring her dreams to live. I liked the way in which Aaric pushed her to be the best she could be. Bryn’s business idea was utter genius. I would love a styling app like that to help make choosing an outfit easier.
Although Aaric tries to present a stoic facade to the world, I loved being able to see the vulnerability below the surface. Especially with his desires for a family of his own, however, it is also this aspiration that clouds his judgement and could destroy his own happiness.
Tycoon is the type of story you are going to want to read in one sitting, all the while desperately craving a happily ever after 😉
