Following extensive research commissioned by Booktrust from the Institute of Education, it has been revealed that only 1 in 8 Dads read to their children (research figures here) . In an effort to encourage more participation from fathers in the role reading plays in their children’s lives Booktrust has launched a Get Dads Reading Campaign. Full details can be found HERE
Also check out Booktrust’s writer in residence, Matt Haig’s blog post on the importance of sharing stories and the bonding experience created from reading to your children HERE. As well as his radio appearance alongside Booktrust CEO Viv Bird to launch the campaign – podcast HERE go to 1hr 40
Taken from press release:
As part of the Booktrust campaign dads will have access to a whole range or resources and guidance about how to get the most out of reading with their children. A host of celebrity dads – Booktrust’s ‘Dads Army’ – including James Patterson and Dan Snow will lend their support to the campaign. See www.booktrust.org.uk and #dadsreading.
