Synopsis from Fantastic Fiction
After 450 years of living, Nastasya Crowe should have more of a handle on this whole immortal thing….
After a deadly confrontation at the end of Darkness Falls, the second Immortal Beloved novel, Nastasya Crowe is, as she would put it, so over the drama. She fights back against the dark immortals with her own brand of kick-butt magick…but can she fight against true love? In the satisfying finale to the Immortal Beloved trilogy, ex-party-girl immortal Nastasya ends a 450-year-old feud and learns what “eternally yours” really means.
Please bear in mind that this is the third and final book int the Immortal Beloved series and the review may therefore contain spoilers for the previous books.
I have to say Eternally Yours was not at all what I was expecting from the last installment of the Immortal Beloved series. Don’t get me wrong I love Nastasya’s narrative voice, her internal battles and her direct address to the reader made some laugh out loud moments. However, I felt this book is more character driven than plot driven. Nastaysa’s journey to this point has been captivating and I really enjoyed seeing how she altered her perceptions not only of other people but most importantly of herself. On the other hand I felt there was a little too much time spent on Nastaya’s past with the amount of flashbacks woven into the story that didn’t really seem to progress the plot.
A number of plot threads I felt were dealt with a bit abruptly. The build up of tension in anticipation of the confrontation of good versus evil within the narrative felt a little flat and anti-climatic at the end. I think I would have liked to have seen a lot more of the group dynamics while battling the ‘enemy’.
I would also liked to have seen quite a bit more of Nastasya and Reyn’s relationship as it developed, for me this was the basis of my love of the books (remember its all about the romance with me) so the snippets of them together in Eternally Yours were not nearly enough. Perhaps we can convince Cate to write a novella just on their relationship. Their future was hinted at within Eternally Yours but I would like it confirmed
Overall Eternally Yours provides a satisfactory conclusion to the series with astounding character development on Nastasya’s behalf.
